Our expertise

Coordinated by Jean-Jacques de Balasy, the team at Montrose brings together talents with a wide variety of backgrounds and proven operational experience.
Motivated by a strong desire to contribute their wide range of skills and their demanding dedication to serve your projects, the Montrose team commits all their resources to ensure your business’s success.

With a degree from the Institut d’Études Politiques in Paris and a “Licence” degree in law from Paris X University, Jean-Jacques de Balasy has over 30 years’ experience in investment banking acquired at leading international investment banks.

In 2013, he left his position as head of investment banking activities at Barclays Capital France to found MONTROSE Capital Advisory, a company specialised in corporate finance advisory.
Jean-Jacques de Balasy began his career in 1982 at the Financial Affairs department of Lazard Frères et Cie, where he spent 12 years, and was named Junior Partner in 1992. During these 12 years, Jean-Jacques worked alongside Lazard’ partners on many merger and acquisition operations, notably for take-over bids, mergers, defence of listed companies, financial restructuring at major groups and privatisation advice. Jean-Jacques was also a advisor to the chairman of the financial holding firm Gaz et Eaux, which later merged with its parent company to form Eurazeo, one of the largest French capital investment and private equity firms.
In 1994, Jean-Jacques joined Lehman Brothers as the investment bank’s co-head for France. During this period, he continued to carry out merger and acquisition operations and also developed global relations with major French groups, notably for their operations abroad.
In 1998, Jean-Jacques joined Morgan Stanley International to take charge of mergers and acquisitions at their French branch.
In 2002, he was named co-head of Morgan Stanley France’s investment bank and Chief Executive of Morgan Stanley International Limited France, a member of the Paris Operating Committee. For 8 years, Jean-Jacques continued to initiate, direct and execute merger and acquisition operations while ensuring business development for Morgan Stanley with the other Managing Directors in Paris, while also managing the Paris office.
In 2005, Jean-Jacques became head of investment banking activities at Barclays Capital for France, Belgium
and Luxembourg, and spent 8 years there during which Barclays Capital saw exponential growth in its business.
In fact, in 1998, the bank, which was specialised in financing for major companies, took over Lehman Brothers’
investment bank business in the United States and decided to set up a subsidiary for mergers and acquisitions and
capital markets in Europe and Asia. For this, Jean-Jacques brought together a team specialised in mergers,
acquisitions, and strengthening the capital base, alongside the existing debt origination, rate and exchange teams.
Within a few years, Barclays Capital France became one of the major players in the Paris financial markets.
In October 2013, Jean-Jacques left Barclays Capital and founded Montrose Capital Advisory, a firm specialised in corporate financial advice, covering merger-acquisitions, advice for issuing shareholders’ equity and debt, as well as financial strategy assistance.
